Know the Rules, Enjoy the Ride
DesmonStrong
This platform is where I share my story. How did I overcome the physical and emotional challenges? What lessons have I learned? How my experience has deeply shaped me into the person I am today.
On July 4, 2019—my life changed forever. I was in an accident that led to me being air-flighted to one of the Southeast’s top trauma centers. It felt like I was fighting for survival. From that day on, my journey has been one of resilience, recovery, & profound gratitude.
Join me as I reflect on safety’s importance, the power of community, and the will to keep moving forward. It’s been quite a ride (in more ways than one).

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 2019 Motorcycle Crash Statistics
After a terrible motorcycle accident, it left me with lifelong injuries and gave me a whole new outlook on road safety. That incident was a clear reminder of the daily dangers motorcyclists face. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), just in 2019, there were around 84,000 motorcycle crashes in the United States. Sadly, these resulted in 5,014 deaths. This means motorcyclists are 29 times more likely to die in a crash compared to people in cars.

In Memoriam
In memory of those lost on the road.
Ten months before my accident, a devastating car accident claimed the life of one of my close friends, Steven James. His loss left a big void in the lives of his loved ones, me, and serves as such a tragic reminder of the dangers we face on the road.
Six weeks prior to my own accident, another rider, Nathan Richards, lost his life in a motorcycle accident. As a fellow motorcyclist, his loss cuts close to home, reminding us of the fine line we tread every time we ride.
These tragedies weigh so heavily on my heart. I carry the responsibility to honor their memory by advocating for safer roads (and more mindful driving). May their souls rest in peace, and may their stories inspire others to ride & drive with care.
