Back in 2019, I went through a terrible motorcycle accident. It left me with lifelong injuries and gave me a whole new outlook on road safety. That incident was a clear reminder of the daily dangers motorcyclists face. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), just in2019, there were around 84,000 motorcycle crashes in the United States. Sadly, these resulted in 5,014 deaths. This means motorcyclists are 29 times more likely to die in a crash compared to people in cars.
Though motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles, they account for a whopping 14% of all traffic fatalities. Why? Mostly because motorcycles offer so little protection & riders are much more vulnerable. It’s SUPER important to see these stats not as mere numbers but as real lives touched by the risks of riding a motorcycle. For those who’ve managed to pull through such accidents, like me, it’s a bitter Pill to Swallow about how vital safety measures, proper training, and greater road awareness are.
